Why is this out of print? In addition to the Elvis Costello title song (that has yet to appear on ANY of his CD's), this ecclectic collection contained a who's who of Brit's best doing cover versions. They include Sting cutting loose on Little Richard's "Tutti Frutti," and Midge Ure of Ultravox doing Bowie's "Man Who Sold The World" a decade before Nirvana unplugged it.

Bob Marley "The Yvette Acoustic Tape" (1976)
» The Parosite - Entertaining Paros

Recorded in one of Bob's girlfriend's houses this tape includes many songs that Bob never released and some that would become some of his most famous classics.
The mood is really relaxed and Bob seems to be in a really great mood often laughing out loud at some of the things he is singing.
He then gets a bit more serious with the deeply religious God of All Ages where he is accompanied by the heartbeat rhythm of a bongo drum.
Rumors is also another great highlight featuring some fantastic vocal form.
Bob on this tape also composes some of jammin as well as a very early rendition of Easy Skanking.
He also chats a bit between songs about opening a hospital in Ethiopia.
The tape closes out with Oh What a Day, which is a long very early version of what would become Misty Morning.

The Electric Chairs "Eddie and Sheena" (Single)

A nice bit of clean fun from The Electric Chairs. This is the story of a 'Teddy Boy' called Eddie and a 'Punk' called Sheena. The first two thirds tell the story in a 'Buddy Holly' Rock 'n' Roll style and then the last third (if that) goes into a '1234' classic punk style. It's one of those records that just makes you smile.

The b-side ain't bad either, so leave a comment and say which one you prefer.

The Heavy Metal Kids "She's No Angel" (Single)

Many of you may remember the 'Heavy Metal Kids' lead singer 'Gary Holton'. He was also an actor and was most famous for playing 'Wayne' the cockney carpenter in 'Auf Wiedersehen Pet'.

I guess 'She's No Angel' could be classed as 'glam rock' but whatever it is, as far as I'm concerned its right up there on my list of favorite songs. So leave a comment and tell me what you think.

Albertos Y Lost Trios Paranoias "Snuff Rock" (EP)

This was "Albertos (sometimes Alberto) Y Lost Trios Paranoias" third single and most probably most famous single. Although their fourth single "Heads Down No Nonsense, Mindless Boogie" (I will post this later) actually broke into the top 50 Their songs were a piss take of punk rock, that actually came out sounding very punk and not bad. . Listen to the start of "Kill" taking the piss out of the Damned's "New Rose", you can hear the classic beginning "is she really going out with him" in a posh voice, brilliant.

A little more etching trivia again, on the b-side: "Stiff is cheap, Snuff is free" and on the a-side "dedicated to Decca".

The Slits "Typical Girls" (Single)

Considering the Slits formed in 1976, it's quite a surprise that it took them until 1979 to release an album and a single. The Slits were an all girl band except for the Drummer Budgie (later with Siouxsie and the Banshees and the Creatures) consisting of Ari Up, Palmolive, and Viv Albertine. I saw the Slits a few times and their gigs were very raw and angry, so (Like many) I was surprised when I bought this single at how commercial and professional it was.

'Typical Girls' is excellent but for me it's their b-side cover of the Marvin Gayes classic 'I Heard It Through The Grapevine' that stands out. If there done well I have always been a fan of covers, especially if the format is changed, and in my opinion this version is brilliant.

So which one do you prefer, the original or the cover? leave a comment, I know where my vote is.

Cock Sparrer "We Love You" (Single)

Cock Sparrer's second single, a cover of The Rolling Stones 'We Love You' and in my opinion they have made this song theirs. The way they sing this song really makes you feel that they don't love you, and I love it. I still play this today, and I try to snarl out the lyrics, but can't quite match them.

They ended up attracting a large skinhead following which made them difficult to see, shame as this single showed so much promise.

This was ripped from another 12" and you can see from the condition of the cover scan, that this was a much played song.

The b-sides 'Chip On My Shoulder' is more heavy punk style but for me the stand out track is 'We Love You. Which one do you prefer? Leave a comment.

This one was one of maybe 5 differ things I was thinking of putting up last night. I got home, turned on the computer & Rockabilly all ready did a Cramps post! Great minds think alike as they say. Anyway this is listed as an import but there are no new copies for sell at the moment anywhere I'm looking. It's just 'backordered'. In my experience with backordering I've never gotten any of them. It's not an exact science figuring out whether something is out of print or not. There are certain things I could tell you without a doubt are. Others like this one it's hard telling. Only time will tell. I haven't seen a new copy for sell for about 3 months now. Either way, it fits into the basic motto of the site to me. "Good music that flys a little bit under the radar."

'Like a Bad Girl Should' & 'Devil Behind That Bush' are 2 of my fav's here.

Since “Nocturnal Nomad” is an all acoustic set. I figured it would be cool to go back to the original acoustic Dogs D’Amour release that started the trend. There are drums & electic guitars on this though. A lot more upbeat than the Tyla acoustic stuff for sure. This was originally a limited edition item when I got it. I’m thinking like 10,000 copies maybe? But it has been re-issued numerous times in different formats over the years since. So it really can’t be considered all that rare anymore. And I must tell you that I was very surprised to find out that most of the Dogs D’Amour catalogue is out of print to begin with!? I only looked them up because I wanted to add this to “Nocturnal...” When I did, I found that there are very few copies of even used CDs for any of ‘The Dogs’ stuff. I knew they were kind of an underground band of course. But ‘The Replacements’ are kind of an underground band as well. And everyone knows who they are! At one point in time The Dogs D’Amour had 4 songs in the top 100 of the U.K. charts at the same time. A very impressive feat for an underground band if you ask me. Either way… ‘So Once Was I’ ‘Comfort of the Devil’ ‘Bullet Proof Poet’, etc..

One part Rolling Stones. One part NY Dolls. Add in a tad of Chuck Berry, some Charles Bukowski & helluva lot of alcohol. Viola! You got ‘The Dogs D’Amour’. Their first major label release. Rock n Roll at it’s finest here. Toatal 'Debauchery' as they put it. It seems like the 1st record is always the best. Doesn't it? I honestly couldn't brag high enough about this. Not a bad song to be found here. As Tyla writes in all of his liner notes: “Cheers!”

"Any (or all) of the following would be a fitting description of the New York Dolls live on-stage -- sloppy, loud, drunk, and trashy. Over the years, countless Dolls' bootlegs have appeared, some worthwhile, others that should have remained in someone's attic. But overall, I'm a Human Being is a keeper. Including selections from one of the Dolls' best-known bootlegs, Red Patent Leather, tracks from another show, reportedly from Vancouver during 1974, are featured as well. The sound quality is surprisingly good (what appears to be soundboard recordings), and is loaded with tracks that never appeared on any of the Dolls' two studio albums. Included are such covers as "Hoochie Coochie Man" and "Don't Mess With Cupid," as well as tracks that would later appear on post-Dolls albums by Johnny Thunders ("Pirate Love," "Down Down Downtown") and Syl Sylvain ("Teenage News"). But not all the selections are oddities, as some of the Dolls' best-known tracks are included -- "Personality Crisis," "Jetboy," the title track. While it may not be a complete show, I'm a Human Being is a good live sampling of latter day Dolls."
